In which I am DONE with this greyness, and attempt to snap out of it by wearing things I love...and also let things go (such is life). Let's put some silly things on!
I have 4 hooks I hang (costume and semi-precious) necklaces from, a tiny box for REAL jewelry, a small mother-of-pearl dish, a 1950s ashtray with match holder (Fornasetti!) that also holds perfume samples, a crystal salt-cellar and a rose pink china dish. Whatever doesn't fit goes into a drawer and I forget it exists. Veronica has never been interested in any of it or it would all be under the sofa.
I love the sound of all your containers! They can be just as special as the things we keep in them. It’s funny, a major theme for everyone who answered this is “If I can’t see ‘em, I forget about ‘em.”
Glad Veronica never got her paws on your pretties!!
I like the idea that each outfit is a bubble that’s gone after it pops! Even the same clothes worn on a different day has a slightly different mood. A reminder to live in the moment…
Thanks, Lin! I realized that I rarely remember what I’ve worn (thank goodness for recording them all for nearly 20 years!), and that the bubble analogy fit my thinking!
Well, spring may not have sprung for you, but your 'fits were definitely spring-adjacent! Love the pink and green, but then that teal outfit...oh, I just love them all! I do forget about my jewelry because so much of it is in an armoire. I do have a simple curtain rod hung in my closet with these strange S hooks I got at IKEA. I hang my fun (as in not the real stuff) necklaces there. The problem is it's also where my "valet" rod is. My valet rod is an iron pipe I got Mike to hang up for clothes coming out of the dryer. Yes, my laundry is in my closet. I am still wondering if that was a mistake. My good jewelry is in the armoire. I cleaned out two drawers this weekend and surprised myself by what was in there that I'd forgotten! So, obviously, I have no tips for jewelry! If it makes you feel any better...I woke up to a couple of inches of snow on the ground. It was gone by lunchtime, though.
Exactly, Marsha! If it won't BE spring, I'll just have to do it myself! Aw, thank you so much - I appreciate that you love colours too! Your laundry is in your closet?? Well, at least you don't have to go far! I definitely find that it's "out of sight, out of mind" when it comes to jewelry for many of us, including me. That's partly why I have seasonal jewelry, because otherwise I forget so much of it.
Love the adidas tulle skirt outfit! The capri leggings underneath was a very cute touch, and the belt was super cool too. The beaded J Crew sweater ensemble comes in second for me.
Thanks, Ang! I love playing with that skirt (the legging make it feel less naked). The J. Crew sweater is such a treasure - I could only find pics of Jenna Lyons herself in it! There don't seem to have been many of them made.
I love how clothing and colour can be used as tools to express ourselves, Margaret, and yup, I'm definitely a creative! I find this last month in my closet season to be the most fun - I get to wear things again and play around with layers.
My cat is too lazy to steal anything but sometimes he does get curious so I lock all my jewellery in a jewellery box that it's impossible to open with his fat paws! This was a great piece Sheila xx I loved reading it!
I loved your analogy of outfits as bubbles, Sheila! And that beaded sweater is truly stunning! I keep the majority of my accessories in the top drawer of my dresser, laid out so that I can see them. I have a few of my necklaces on a mini dressform on a shelf and I have a couple of dishes to display the rest on. Luckily, my cats don't bother with it unless I'm bothering with it (Claire likes to supervise, and assist, any declutter/organizing of the accessories :)
My brain doesn't remember them, Gillian - they are indeed as fleeting in my mind as a bubble. Thank goodness for nearly 2 decades of recording them!
I've started using drawers to store some of my pins - I want to clear out of one of my jewelry boxes, to free up some space. AW, kitty Claire sounds so cute!
Thanks so much, JoAnn! It just came to me...like a bubble. Isn't that an incredible sweater? It's even better in person, when you can enjoy all that embroidery and beadwork, all done by hand.
Good for you! It really does help lift the spirits!
Out damned winter! Fie on your cold winds and snowy iced blankets!
I am exceedingly pleased to share that while there is *still* snow on the ground, it IS melting! And even better, as of Wednesday the forecast is slated to be 20+ degrees warmer and to stay in that range for many days to come.
Like you, I am a visual person. All of my earrings (well, the ones that can hang) are on an earring tree Fred made for me, which sits atop a shelf in easy reach. I keep my silver in a box and bracelets and necklaces (and a few dressier earrings) in a drawer. The result, though, is that I do tend to forget about what I have. On the other hand, earrings are a daily wear for me, whereas these days necklaces and bracelets rarely see the light of day. That was a direct result of retirement; work required the armor that necklaces and bracelets provide!
Oh, I’m so happy to hear that it’s starting to warm up, Laurie! Begone, snow!
I used to use ice cube trays for my earrings - not very classy, but they did the job! I agree - I’ll likely pare down a good part of my jewelry collection once I retire. I have plans to pass a bunch of it along to my 3 nieces (who are very excited about this!).
I also demand spring!! I love the adidas tulle skirt and the different ways you styled it. Omg may your fun colors and prints manifest spring in NYC!!!
I'm an adidas girl through and through so when I saw the tulle skirt, I was like damyammm. Sheila you are killing it as usual. And I still love the fish necklace. Thanks for sharing the designer's name!
Omgoodness! Teal Appeal is bold, bright and brilliant! I love the neon tiger peaking out of the teal jungle to match the sweater! Spring will be here soon! But first the rain ....

If you do forget, it’s always a delight to rediscover them!
That's the most fun of doing my jewelry and closet swap-overs -the "Oh yeah!" moments, when I remember what I have.
I like the idea that each outfit is a bubble that’s gone after it pops! Even the same clothes worn on a different day has a slightly different mood. A reminder to live in the moment…

Absolutely! Wear the clothes! Live for right now!

Yikes, SNOW? I am glad it's gone!

Whenever the winter blues hit I ALWAYS turn to my brightest colors for a bit of cheer! Such a mood booster :)
It really works, doesn't it, Hope? Colour therapy is a real thing! Glad to have you here, thank you so much for commenting.
You’re so creative. I’ve started my wardrobe switch as it’s getting warmer here but still grey and wet.
I find spring one of the hardest seasons to dress for. I think it’s because it’s so unpredictable but colour is a good plan.
I keep jewellery in glass boxes and little drawers. No cats though just a 🐰
I love how clothing and colour can be used as tools to express ourselves, Margaret, and yup, I'm definitely a creative! I find this last month in my closet season to be the most fun - I get to wear things again and play around with layers.
I think I need some glass boxes!
The boots! Both the orange wavy pair and the lime green ones are amazing. Obviously I love your vampire outfits the most 🖤
Thanks, Sophie! I love funky footwear! Glad you enjoyed the vampires! We had a lot of fun doing that photoshoot.
My cat is too lazy to steal anything but sometimes he does get curious so I lock all my jewellery in a jewellery box that it's impossible to open with his fat paws! This was a great piece Sheila xx I loved reading it!
Ha, my cats are not the smartest - they are dissuaded by just a cardigan. Aw, thank you so much, Giulia! That's so kind of you! <3

She is indeed very cute, but also annoying when she’s trying to run off with the necklaces 😺
Naughty kitty! I still haven't found my little wooden Scandi cat pin. :(
Love the idea of outfit bubbles! That beaded sweater is fabulous.
I'm turning to brighter colors too to coax spring out.

Thanks so much for being here, my friend!

Right, Fawnia!? If we wear it, it will come! The Adidas tulle skirt is one of my favourite pieces in my closet - it always gives me joy.
Winter - BEGONE!
That’s definitely a keeper you can style so many ways and all year! And omg go away winter!!!
I'm an adidas girl through and through so when I saw the tulle skirt, I was like damyammm. Sheila you are killing it as usual. And I still love the fish necklace. Thanks for sharing the designer's name!
Isn’t it the coolest thing, Elaine? When I saw it, I was, “This will be mine!”
Always! I’ll never gatekeep if I know the brand. Just ask, if you ever have questions. 💕🥰
Loving the jewelry displays. Textured 3D art!
Omgoodness! Teal Appeal is bold, bright and brilliant! I love the neon tiger peaking out of the teal jungle to match the sweater! Spring will be here soon! But first the rain ....
It’s like I did it on purpose!😜 Thanks, honey! Great to see you for brunch (lick your fork, there’s pie!). 💕
